Based on our research (January 2011), no natural health product aimed at treating endometriosis has been seriously studied. Some professionals offer their patients chaste tree berries, dandelion root and bark of viorna obier or thorny ash to reduce their symptoms8. For more information, consult a trained herbalist or naturopath.

 Fitantanana fanaintainana. Exercises, such as tai chi or yoga, help some women cope better with their pain9.

 Menaka Castor (Kitika mahazatra). This vegetable oil, called “castor oil” in English, can help reduce pelvic pain.10. Soak a compress in castor oil. Apply it on the lower abdomen. Put on top of a hot water bottle or a hot “magic bag”. Lie on your back and let sit for at least 30 minutes. If necessary, repeat daily.

 Fitsaboana sinoa nentim-paharazana. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the unconventional methods most used by women to treat endometriosis8. It is suggested, among others, by Dr Andrew Weil. Treatments generally consist of toning the Kidneys and Qi (energy flow), and promoting blood circulation to counteract blood stagnation in the abdomen. It combines both acupuncture and the use of plants, such as corydalis, Chinese bupler or Chinese angelica8. Some clinical studies in China suggest that TCM can relieve symptoms or even treat infertility in some women11-14 . However, these studies were not performed with a placebo control and their methodological quality is considered to be low. Treatment requires follow-up by a specialist.

 Diet changes. To alleviate the symptoms of endometriosis or prevent them from worsening, the American doctor Andrew Weil advises to follow a diet with the properties anti-milaza zavatra15. This regime is similar to the Mediterranean regime.

Here are its basic principles:

– eat a wide variety of foods;

– include as much fresh food as possible;

– minimize the amount of refined foods and junk food;

– eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

To learn more about this diet and to know the opinion of our nutritionist Hélène Baribeau on this subject, see: Dr Weil: the anti-inflammatory diet.

The Dr Weil also recommends avoiding consuming meat and dairy products from factory farms, and favoring products from a fambolena biolojika, who did not receive hormones.
