Vincent Elbaz: I do not believe it at all ! The phrase is an invention to show how false it sounds in men, as it does in women. It is the children who make us worthy to be their parents. Being a father is not won, it has to be earned. On the other hand, my desire for a child is genuine. At 15, I was already dreaming about it. I am the oldest of the siblings, I am eleven years apart from my sister.
With your baby children, what was your place?
ARY: From birth, I discovered unsuspected resources, great energy. I liked everything. Put the drops in the eyes, look at the baby, talk to him! Newborn babies don’t bother me at all. The moments of communication are anchored in the present moment, very deep, just like when I’m playing a movie scene.
A real daddy hen then?
ARY: I love spending time with my kids. Breakfasts with jam overflowing everywhere. When I’m with them, I feel at ease, like on a set. But, I have my limits. I have never attended birth preparation classes. And I always preferred the stroller to the baby carrier, the accessory made a funny impression on me.
Are there any stressful spots in your life as a dad?
ARY: Apart from “Little Brown Bear” and its credits every 3 minutes? I happened to be exhausted. To spend part of the night rocking my son because his teeth were suffering… But I have nothing to complain about. There are two of us, so I can pass the baton. The organization is going well – we are a blended family. The only memory of great stress is when the announcement of Simon’s pregnancy. I was super happy, but I immediately thought that we needed a car with a huge trunk, a car seat. It had become an obsession, a real delirium to search for the right model for two weeks. Finally, I’m doing very well in Paris with my bike …
Is the atmosphere at home like that of your childhood?
ARY: My life is very different, but there are similarities: love, warmth, a worldview. Failure to differentiate between raising a girl and a boy. But I think I’m wiser, I don’t need as much carelessness as my parents did in the 70s. With Fanny (Fanny Conquy), we invent our own way. We do the market in our respective education …
Do you have a favorite dish that you are making for children?
ARY: Pasta with tomato sauce! I brown the tomatoes (canned) with garlic, olive oil, herbs… You have to find something other than small organic jars…
