Everything you need to take good care of your skin in winter

Winter is not kind to our skin. The main responsible? Cold, which alters the microcirculation of the skin and causes the blood vessels to contract. The extremities of the body (feet, hands, nose, etc.) will thus be less well irrigated. The wind is also a spoiler by attacking the skin and damaging the skin barrier. And, beware of untimely hand washing with products that are a little too abrasive.

As a result, in winter, the superficial cells break off (desquamation) and make the skin porous, allowing microbes and other allergens to enter.

And in terms of sensations, we cannot say that it is very pleasant. Tightness, itching, discomfort with our usual skincare creams, but also make-up that doesn’t hold up.

Actions to protect your skin from the cold

Dr Nina Roos, dermatologist, explains that “ the main course of action is to cover yourself well “. We therefore do not skimp on the 2 pairs of socks, the nose cover and the lined gloves, the extremities of the body being the most sensitive to the cold. For the rest of the body, cotton is preferred in direct contact with the skin, which is less irritating than wool. Then, “we must focus on adapted cosmetic care », Depending on the areas to be protected.

– Face : who says change of season, says change of cream. In winter, we therefore opt for more moisturizing products, richer textures. And if it is really cold, we immediately adopt a cold cream, a balm that will protect the skin as it should from external aggressions.

– Lips: we pamper them with a special lip balm. In case of cracks, we forget the acidic foods that could make them worse. And above all, insists Nina Roos, “ we avoid licking our lips as much as possible, at the risk of showing cracks ”.

– Hands: they are moisturized with a repairing cream, massaging well to the tips of the nails. For people with fragile hands and / or those who wash them very often, Doctor Roos recommends the use of a fanosotra fanosotra, which will deposit a silicone film on the hands, and thus provide them with greater protection.

– Feet : apart from the tights / socks option or the double pair of socks option, you can apply a fanosotra to soften our little feet. And when you coconut at home, you can eventually be tempted by moisturizing socks, soaked in cream.

– The rest of the body: we wash with super-rich or soap-free cleansers, less aggressive and strippers. And of course, after the shower, we hydrate our skin with a comfort cream.

And what about food in all of this?

Food also has a role to play. Doctor Roos recommends refuelingOmega-3. They are found in particular in fatty fish: salmon, mackerel, herring, sardines, smoked trout… But also in rapeseed oil, nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts…) and flax seeds. These fatty acids also have an anti-inflammatory action which can help prevent eczema flare-ups. Note that it is possible to make a cure of 3 months of food supplements in Omega-3 during the winter season. Finally, even if at this time of the year, we feel less thirsty, we do not forget to drink 1,5 liters of water or green tea daily.
